Leo Burnett, Sydney

Brief: To create a series of murals for 10 walls covering approx. 250 square meters at the main office of Leo Burnett advertising agency in Sydney. I was responsible for the whole concept (ideas, images, stories) as well as its execution. The only element imposed on me was to incorporate Leo Burnett’s logo (a pencil) in some of the murals. I have used the original raw concrete as part of the artwork.

Solution:

Images 1-4 The two murals are in front of the main meeting room. The fish represent Leo Burnett (as they have pencils instead of fins) and the flowers with hooks symbolize clients. There is a sense of a playful confrontation between them as both would like to gain as much as possible from their meeting. Fish have sharp teeth and the flowers have sharp hooks, which makes the confrontation even more interesting.

Images 5-6 The mural depicts a jellyfish, which has electric cords instead of tentacles. The image juxtaposes underwater environment and electricity. All the cords are chasing one plug, which is also a playful sexual reference.

Images 7-9 The mural is at the entrance to the agency. It shows an open head from which fly out pencils with propellers symbolizing ideas. They are flying in the direction of the main office. They invite the clients to explore the creative world inside the agency.

Images 10-11 The mural is in front of the CEO office and it shows a bird flying with a captured U-boat. The image is powerful and intense reflecting the vibe often found in the room where the important decisions are made. The bird can’t drop the U-boat without serious consequences, the same as CEOs can’t make any wrong decisions.

Image 12 The mural shows a galaxy suspended on balloons. The work comments on the unpredictability and fragility of the environment/universe.
